Accessing your Doctor - how to book an appointment

All GPs provide daily telephone consultations and lots of queries, results of tests, requests for advice etc can be dealt with in this way. Many people don’t need to come into the surgery to be seen at all; their problem can be dealt with by telephone. This gives their Doctor more time to see those people that need appointments in the surgery.

All our GP consultations, face to face and telephone, are bookable up to four weeks in advance either via our Online Services or you can book over the telephone with our Telephone Triage Administrators. For more urgent problems, we aim for you to be able to see a GP within forty eight hours, although this may not be your own GP.

When you phone to book an appointment, you will be asked by the Telephone Triage Administrators to give a brief description of what your health problem is; you don’t have to give this information if you prefer not to, but if you do it will enable you to be given the most appropriate appointment – please help them by providing any information you can.  In accordance with our usual practice, any information you provide will be treated with the strictest confidentiality and all calls will be answered away from the patients’ waiting area.

If your condition can be dealt with by our Clinical Assessment Nurses, then you will be offered an appointment with them if appropriate.

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, it is preferable if you could request this at the time of booking.

Messages can also be left via your GP’s Secretary. Calls will not routinely be put through to the GP as this interrupts consultations with other patients.

Please note that incoming and outgoing telephone calls may be recorded for training and monitoring purposes.

Telephone Triage Administrators telephone number: 01327 877770

Please be aware that to use our Online Services you will need to collect your login details from the surgery, with proof of identification. For more information please see our Information Page.

Doctors Schedules

Please download our Doctors' Schedule to see when the Doctors' availability throughout the week.

Out of Hours Appointments

If you require medical attention when the surgery is closed, please use the NHS 111 service.

Call 111 if:

  • you need medical help fast but it's not a 999 emergency
  • you think you need to go to A&E or need another NHS urgent care service
  • you don't know who to call or you don't have a GP to call
  • you need health information or reassurance about what to do next

If you have difficulties communicating or hearing, you can use the NHS 111 service through a textphone by calling 18001 111.

For many problems telephone advice may be all that is needed. When a consultation is required, you may be requested to go to the out of hours centre at Danetre Hospital in Daventry or to the Highfield Clinical Care Centre in Northampton.

In certain circumstances you may be advised to attend the Accident and Emergency Department directly.  Home visits are only for those patients who are genuinely unfit to travel.

Please leave non urgent problems until the surgery is back open.

If a health professional has given you a specific phone number to call when you are concerned about your condition, continue to use that number.

NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.
For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, continue to call 999

For more information about NHS 111, please visit the NHS Website - 111 Information Page.

Named Accountable GP

All patients will be allocated to a GP; to try to ensure everyone has good access to our services we allocate new patients to our GPs on a rota basis.  Spouses and children of existing patients are registered with that patient's GP where this is both requested and feasible.  You have a right to express a preference of GP, in writing or in person, to the Practice Manager and we will make every attempt to accommodate your request or provide you with details of why your request cannot be met.
